The 10-Tree Challenge

In 2006, we challenged each SA congregation, neighborhood association, organization and club to plant and adopt 10 trees.  We gave away over 400 trees.

In 2007, our program went national. 30 UU congregations accepted the 10 tree challenge.  1500+ trees were planted/ adopted.

In 2008, the challenge was scaled down to make it easier to participate.  "10 Tree Challenge" became..

Trees for San Antonio

Now any person can get a free tree if they will agree to:

  1. Plant it in an inner city neighborhood, or on public land.
  2. Get permission as necessary to plant on (schoolgrounds, in a park, or in urban green space.)
  3. Get the information and training needed to plant the right tree in the right way in the right space.
  4. Plant only native or non-invasive species.
  5. Pick up a tree from Community UU Church.
  6. 6Water and care for the tree until it's established.

Trees provide shade, wildlife habitat, and beauty.  They reduce energy costs, increase property value and improve air quality.

Join our effort! Let's begin to replace the large number of trees taken down for development.

Here are some ways to participate:
