7/26 - Distracted from What? - Peter van Dusen

"But Peter," friends ask me (naturally enough), "What does a Culture of Distraction distract us FROM?" Trying to answer this question took me back to a tetralogy of books by Daniel Quinn: "Ishmael," "The Story of B," "My Ishmael," and "Beyond Civilization." I read all of them when they came out in the 1990s, and I cannot believe I let them languish for so long before returning to reread them in their entirety this spring.
