Nosotros, las congregaciones miembros de la Asociación UU, convenimos en afirmar y formentar el valor y la dignidad propria de cada persona.
The service for Sunday, November 18, will be a bread communion (coordinator is Janet Oglethorpe. Members and friends can bring a sample of bread to share, along with the "story" of the bread that makes it unique or significant for them. "Symbolic" bread (i.e., bread present in thought rather than fact) can also be given. For more information, contact Janet at 493-8943.
The board and the Operations and Maintenance committee have initiated an effort to evaluate and improve the system we use to take care of our building and grounds. As a first step, we are soliciting the comments and suggestions from both the congregation and Dave Collins. If you know of ways that we can better care for our buildings and grounds, if you see a need, or if you have a concern, please let us know. You can contact Bob McKee (RobertJMcKee@aol.com) or Henry Halff (henry@quiensabe.com) with your input.
All are welcome to come join us at CUUC for Thanksgiving dinner! Sally Wiesen will prepare the roast turkey. Please sign up in the coffee room and indicate how many people will join us, and bring a dish to share with everyone! Festivities will start at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22. Hope to see you all there!

I am happy to announce the employment of Courtney Massey as Child Care Provider in the Nursery. She is a sophomore attending Marshall High School and lives in our neighborhood. She comes through and was recommended by Dianna Ross who has known her since she has lived on Beverly May E. Please make her welcome. Joan Bradshaw
The following is the attendance data for October and November:
October 21, 33 Adults and 8 Children
October 28, 28 Adults and 5 Children
November 4, 26 Adults and 6 Children
November 11, 23 Adults and 6 Children
This attendance is good but it seems to be decreasing as we approach the holiday season. We all need community at this time of year so ask your friends to attend with you and encourage our visitors to return. --Bob McKee
This year's intergenerational Christmas service (to be held on December 23) will be something special. Instead of an hour of caroling, the program committee has decided to put on a full-fledged pageant drawing on a number of traditions, but based mainly on medieval and renaissance Christian and Pagan feasts. This service will be special in many respects. It will last 2-3 hours. A meal will be part of the service. Children from The Bridge (a home for kids who, due to problems not of their making, are temporarily unable to live with their families) will form a Wassail corps for the celebration. Everyone will have a role in the service. And, everyone will need to contribute to the preparations. A signup sheet and other information is available at the church [and is also included in the printed version newsletter] and is available on the web (information at http://www.cuucsa.org/revelsfaq.html, signup sheet at http://www.cuucsa.org/cuucrevelssignup.pdf). Our revels draw loosely on a nationwide movement that dates back to the sixties. You can find out more at http://www.revels.org/. Mark your calendars for December 16 when, after the service, we will all help to transform the sanctuary into the great hall of a medieval castle.

There will be an open house and annual membership meeting of the U. U. Housing Assistance Corporation (UUHAC) on Tuesday, November 13, 2001, at the new office at 2015 N. Main Avenue. The open house will take place from 5:15-6:15 p. m., and then we'll discuss our growth changes and elect the board for the next year from 6:15-7:00 p. m. Free parking is available across the street at Magnolia Gardens Restaurant.
What do you get when you cross a determined woman (that would be me, and
a dragged-in husband) with 5 semi-willing children workers (that would
be Amy, Annie, Alexis, Chloe and Richard) at a Car Wash for 10 cars?
At first, LOTS OF FUN, and then as the energy waned, more determination
and passive rebellion. It took the completion of 5 cars before the
kids felt like they were overworked and underpaid. In spite of it all
we raised $110.00 for the project that the kids selected as being their
first Social Responsibility project. We will process all of this at
our next Social Res. lesson in December but in the meantime, I hope you
will discuss this with your children and give me any feedback that you
think would be helpful toward accomplishing our goal of involving our
children in efforts whereby we can pass on the UU tradition of doing for
others. This project and fund raising activity was kid chosen and
teacher supported.
Luv and hugs,
"Slave Driver", joan
Unitarian Universalists have the opportunity to make their voices heard in the national debate on poverty during Up From Poverty, a national audio conference (Wed., Nov. 14 at 7 p.m.) sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) and the National Council of Churches (NCC). Previous calls were host to UUs, grassroots organizers and anti-poverty advocates from across 24 states who were interested in ending poverty in the United States.
As we continue to grapple with the events of September 11, we realize that there are items that must not to fall by the wayside. For more information about the conference, download the .pdf version of the conference brochure at http://www.uusc.org/pdf/povertyflyer.pdf
