The board and staff of UU Housing Assistance Corporation want to thank the congregation for their gift of $100. Since its incorporation in 1989, UU HAC has purchased, repaired and sold 9 homes to low-income buyers; repaired the homes of 32 low-income home owners in Beacon Hill and Alta Vista and the homes of 4 others who are moderate-income; and provided assistance to 6 low-income buyers and built homes for them. Our plans for 2001 and 2002 include building 8 more homes; repairing the homes of 25 low-income families and 8 moderate-income homeowners; and acquiring 4 homes for repair and sale. There is now a staff of 5 dedicated people and a marvelous board of 9. UU is making a difference in San Antonio, and you are a part of this!
Suddenly, it is Summer and time for a major shift in RE activities. We will provide a long list of possible activities for you to do with the children on both our Brunch and Regular services. Some of them are such things as art projects, crafts, cleaning closets, swimming, nature and science projects, social action projects and the sharing of any of your particular interests or passions. We have noted that there are exactly the right number of parents to cover the entire summer of Sundays if each takes a turn for one Sunday, only, per person. If you are unable or unwilling to do this please ask someone else to substitute for you. The sign-up sheet is in the Foyer. (a telephone call to me at 341-8506 would also work). Should no one sign on a given Sunday, then children should attend church services. Baby sitting services can be arranged for anyone under 6, only, if requested a week in advance. We have been offered the services of a neighborhood girl, making it very convenient for both her and us provided we know she will be needed. Joan Bradshaw

Dear UU friend,
I am writing to introduce you to Unitarian Universalists for DrugPolicy Reform (UUDPR), established last year to assist congregations and individual UUs with the implementation of the drug war Study/ Action Issue passed at last year's General Assembly. (UUDPR is officially recognized as an Independent Affiliate of the UUA.)
Please see http://www.uudpr.org for more information about the drug issue, then complete the survey at http://www.uudpr.org/join.html and join our efforts to promote more just and compassionate drug policies.
As the Bush administration continues to escalate the drug war under Attorney General John Ashcroft and drug czar nominee John Walters -- William Bennett's right-hand man during the first Bush presidency -- UUDPR must organize our resistance.
This is UUDPR's first outreach e-mailing to 832 congregations and 926 ministers. IF YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED IN THIS ISSUE BUT YOU KNOW SOME PEOPLE IN YOUR CONGREGATION WHO MIGHT BE, WE WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IF YOU WOULD FORWARD THIS MESSAGE TO THEM.
(Please make sure that this message reaches your minister, social justice director, and GA delegates -- and perhaps put something in your newsletter or order of worship.)
You've probably heard about the missionaries' plane shot down over Peru a couple of weeks ago because the CIA thought that they were drug couriers. This is just the latest tragedy in the cruel, costly, counterproductive drug war.
Indeed, there are 1.5 million drug arrests in the U.S. every year, with a devastating impact on racial minorities and other underprivileged people. More shocking facts are listed on UUDPR's home page.
In addition, UUDPR can assist your congregation in the following ways:
Of course, all of this requires funding. When you send us your survey, please consider enclosing a financial contribution. (We must raise more than $8,000 this year to run our all-volunteer organization and carry out our planned activities.)
The Bush administration will spend billions of dollars on helicopters in Colombia and prisons in the U.S. If Unitarian Universalists don't contribute to the struggle for less punitive policies, then who will?
Please join UUDPR today, via http://www.uudpr.org/join.html
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Charles Thomas, president

Is there a way for you to maintain or regain much of the vitality you had in youth? We believe there is. Our behavior patterns and attitudes contribute greatly to these energy levels. Consider the way healthy children go about their day and then see what is missing from your adult life. Try one a day, you may like it.
Healthy, happy children:
