2. You learn as much as the kids.
1. You just might receive a handmade card that says, "I love you".
Media Volunteers Needed by UUSC
The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee occasionally sponsors letter-to-the-editor campaigns and other media outreach activities to draw greater attention to the causes we support. Volunteers are crucial to the success of these endeavors since we try to reach as broad an audience as possible. Each activity requires just a small time commitment. Would you please consider being a media volunteer for UUSC?If you choose to participate, you will occasionally receive sample letters that you can send to the editor of your local newspaper. You may also be asked to call your paper to request greater coverage of a certain issue or to follow up on a UUSC press release. If you'd like to participate, contact Ellen Tuttle at 617-868-6600, ext. 230 or e-mail: SCNews@uusc.org.
Pool Maintenance
One of Ben Batschelet's responsibilities this summer is keeping our pool clean, and so volunteers are needed only to skim the surface of the pool as necessary. Thanks Ben!
Catechism with an Open Mind--Third Session
JLooking for an open and personal inquiry into basic religious questions? Join us Sunday July 30, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. in the fireplace room for the third meeting in a series based on the U. U. curriculum authored by George Kimmich Beach. Session three addresses what Alfred North Whitehead describes as the only religious question under debate today: What do you mean by God?
Participation does not require perfect attendance so if you missed the first session you can still come. Bring your lunch if you like. Books for Catechism with an Open Mind are available through the U.U. Bookstore (800-215-9076) for $15.00. We made a group order after the first session and still have one available. Session facilitators are Catherine McKee (681-4197) and Lisa Kuntz (493-8092).
Workday
This summer's first (and probably only) buildings and grounds work day will be held this Saturday, July 8, from 9 a.m. until noon or thereafter. Come help spruce up our grounds for the big wedding on July 17!
Upcoming Committee Meetings
The Board of Trustees will meet on Wednesday, August 8, at 7 p.m.
The Worship Committee will meet on Sunday, July 9 in the fireplace room after services. Visitors are welcome; if you have ideas for our future services, please join us!
The Religious Education Committee will meet on Sunday, July 30 at 12:00.
Sustaining UUSC's Innovative Programs
The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee is a voluntary, nonsectarian organization confronting injustice worldwide thanks to the dedicated advocacy and generous support of its 25,000 members and supporters, as well as individual congregations and foundations. The Service Committee does not accept government funding, nor does it receive general support from the Unitarian Universalist Association.
Your contribution will enable the UUSC to continue the programs which have consistently worked to protect and promote women, defend the rights of children and support the struggles of oppressed racial, ethnc and indigenous groups. A membership contribution of $60 will be matched by the UU congregation at Shelter Rock, NY, and you will be able to stay up-to-date on human rights issues through regular mailings, action alerts and a subscription to the Service Committee News.
The UUSC is grounded in the Unitarian Universalist principles that affirm the worth, dignity and human rights of every person, and the interdependence of all life. This is an opportunity for you to join with others to form a powerful voice for human rights. If 20% of your members join the UUSC this year, your congregation will receive the Vision of Justice Banner Society Award. To learn more about membership, call the UUSC toll free at 800-766-5236 or visit the Web site: www.uusc.org.

Have You Seen This Book?
Some months ago I loaned my paperback copy of Thomas Hoving's book, ( I think the title is "The Cross"). At the time he wrote the book he was the executive director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in N.Y.C. It is nonfiction, but reads like a cloak and dagger detective novel . In my usual absent minded way, I cannot remember whose hands I put the book into. I really would hate to lose this book. It is well worn and thick. HELP! And thanks. Women's Support Group
The CUUCSA women's group is a support group open to all women. The group meets every other Wednesday, upstairs in the "bean bag room" at the church. Participants support each other by listening to and sharing with one another in a group bound by trust and confidentiality. Meeting dates for the Women's Group for the rest of the year are June 7, 21; July 5, 19; August 2, 16, 30; September 13, 27; October 11, 25; November 8, 22; December 6 and 20. For more information, call Catherine McKee, 681-4197.
