Nosotros, las congregaciones miembros de la Asociación UU, convenimos en afirmar y formentar el valor y la dignidad propria de cada persona.

Labor Day Picnic

The Labor Day picnic is scheduled for Monday, September 6 at the church. Each person attending is asked to bring something to grill for her/himself as well as something to share. More information will be coming later.

Texas Public Radio

Our church has been a business member of TPR for the past few years. As a result, CUUC gets mentioned on KSTX regularly; two of us also get invited to their annual Corporate Supporter Event. Listenership at TPR has always been one of the prime targets of our church membership drive. The cost of the business membership is $500 per year and we have been able to meet that obligation by having church members pledge $50 or more towards this membership. If you are interested in supporting Texas Public Radio and having our church mentioned on KSTX, please write a check for $50 or more to CUUC, designate that check for the "TPR membership fund" and hand or mail the check to Nancy White, our treasurer. The deadline for this collection is September 12. Please contact Clem Chow if you have any questions.

Youth And Young Adults Defend Democracy At Summer Workcamp

Youth and young adults: let your voice be heard during this crucial election year! There are still some openings for participants in our Defending Democracy workcamp from Aug. 29 to Sept. 3. Held in New York City to coincide with the Republican National Convention, this is a great opportunity for those who want to get involved in election-related activism. So far this year, dozens of youths have worked with UUSC to learn more about how to get involved in this year's election. You can, too! For more information, visit http://www.uusc.org/news/

UUSC Membership.

Become a UUSC member today for only $25. Especially in these critical times, the Service Committee depends on the support of individuals like you to continue to protect human rights here in the United States and around the world. Your unrestricted gift of $60 or more will be matched dollar for dollar by the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock in Manhasset, N.Y.

To learn more about UUSC membership or to make a donation today, visit: http://www.uusc.org/info/support.html.

Water Communion

Our annual ingathering water communion will take place on August 29 this year. Bring a sample of water from your summer travels and tell us where you've been! The water itself can be a real sample or a "symbolic" offering from your kitchen tap: it's the stories that we care about!

Remarkable Film Group

The Remarkable Films Series will continue to feature films directed by Sydney Pollack on Sunday, August 15 at 6:00 PM at the church. The film selected for August will be "They shoot horses, don't they?" made in 1969 and starring Jane Fonda and Michael Sarrazin.

The third film for the current series on Sydney Pollack's directorial efforts will be "Absence of Malice." This film is scheduled for Sunday, September 19 at 6:00 PM at the church. The 1981 film deals with moral decisions made everyday by journalists and it features Paul Newman and Sally Field.

The Remarkable Film Series will conclude the Sydney Pollack series on Sunday, October 17 at 6:00 PM with "Tootsie." This 1982 film features one of the most amazing performances on film given by Dustin Hoffman.
