CUUCSA ON-LINE NEWSLETTER/ VOL. 13, NO. 8/August 2001

Nosotros, las congregaciones miembros de la Asociación UU, convenimos en afirmar y formentar el valor y la dignidad propria de cada persona.
Water Communion
Join us on August 26 for our traditional "ingathering" service. We ask everyone to bring a sample of water from their summer activities (in the past this has included everything from the Caribbean to the backyard wading pool) and come prepared to tell us a little bit about what you've been up to. Incidentally, your water sample can be "symbolic" (i.e., taken from the kitchen tap) if you forgot to bring water back from your summer vacation! /P>
Labor Day Picnic
Summer may be winding down, but we still have one more annual picnic! Come to the annual Labor Day picnic and pool party on Monday, Sept. 3! We will start the grill at 4:00. Come one, come all, and bring a grilling item and a dish to share with all! Hope to see everyone there!--Sally Wiesen
Big Bend Trip - Chisos Basin
October is prime time in West Texas! Last October, 11 intrepid UUs experienced the worst ice storm in BB in the past 20 years. It was beautiful, if treacherous! It's unlikely we get to repeat the experience this year. I have reserved 2 stone cottages for the nights of Oct. 5,6,7 (Fri - Sat). Those who can will leave Thursday night, stopping in either Ft. Stockton or Marathon, and return on Monday.
Each cottage has 3 double beds, can sleep up to 7 w/rollaway. No privacy, folks! No kitchen, but June suggested someone bring a microwave. We can also stake out a campsite to use for cooking, eating. Cottage walls are 18" thick adobe, screened windows. Not too far from motel/lodge. There is a restaurant, convenience store in the Chisos Basin.
Cost per night will be $30 - $40, depending on number who go. $30 deposit required to Lisa ASAP. --Lisa Kuntz: 493-8092, lisaannk@earthlink.net
Workday
There will be a workday at CUUC on Saturday, August 25, starting at 8:30 am. We'll work until the early afternoon. This will be a largely indoor workday to paint rooms, to clean windows, and do other necessary cleanup. Outside work will be limited due to the heat. Come and join us for whatever time you can. You can send out for a sandwiches for lunch or bring something. If you have ideas about what needs to be done, come help us do it, or at least let me know your ideas. For more information or questions please call Robert McKee at 681-4197.

Congratulations and Thanks!
Please let Michelle, Chloe, Annie, Ally, Denise, Richard and Amy know how proud we are of the project they completed on August 5. They filled ONE HUNDRED plastic bags (donated by Borders Book Store) with school supplies for the children in the Five Palms area of San Antonio. This opportunity was presented to through June Kachtik and the UU Housing Association with funds being donated by merchants in that area. This activity incorporated our UU Principles by; RESPECTING the worth and dignity of all, BELIEVING in our ideals and ACTING on them and VALUING the interdependent web, all the time having a blast. I can't say it enough,"It is such a pleasure to work with these children." luv and hugs, Joan Bradshaw
