It's time for mid-year checkups to see how our new committees are working.
There will be a meeting of the Operations and Maintenance Committee after church on January 27, 2002. The purpose of this meeting will be to plan necessary activities for the next several months. Anyone who would like to help with operations related thing or maintenance is invited to attend. The meeting will last now longer than 40 minutes (approx. 12:00 to 12:40) If you have questions please call Robert McKee 681-4197.
The Program Committee (Worship, Religious Education, Social Justice) will have its monthly meeting on Sunday, February 3.
The Member Services Committee (Membership, Social Activities, Pastoral Care) will meet on Sunday, February 10 after the service. We'll be making midyear corrections in our operations and planning new activities for 2002. If you'd like to help in making our members' lives a little easier, please join us! The Remarkable Film Series will be showing the Italian classic: "The Bicycle Thief" at 6 PM on January 20 at CUUC. Directed by the famed director/actor Vittorio DeSica and released in 1949, it won the 1950 Honorary Academy Award for the most outstanding foreign language film and the 1950 Gloden Globe for the best foreign film.
Arthur Miller wrote that "The Bicycle Thief is Everyman's search for dignity - it is as though the soul of a man has been filmed"

Participation at CUUC: The approximate number of people who participated in the Christmas Pageant on December 23 was 47 adults and 15 children including children for the Bridge. It was a great turnout and a lot of fun. The number in attendance Dec 30 was 23 adults and 5 children. The number at the church service on January 6, 2002, was 33 adults and 6 children, which is a good start for the new year. --Bob McKee

If you received some "white elephants" for Christmas this year, help is on the way! The Community Garage Sale will be held this year on May 11; this is one of our major fundraisers and a legendary great time for all participants. If you have large items to donate that you'll need help in transporting, contact Steve Boyd, 830/606-0636. Start saving those unwanted items now!
This year's Fellowship Dinner will be held on March 9. This is the kickoff for our annual pledge drive and a time for all of us to get together and have a fun evening. The Board is looking for someone to oversee the planning for this year's dinner; if you'd be willing to help, contact Henry Halff, 493-7501, John Bradshaw, 341-8506, or Catherine McKee, 681-4197.
This year's annual meeting will be held on Sunday, May 19, after services.
Chalice Lighters is a program of the Southwest District UUA that provides "minigrants" to UU congregations throughout the district for needs such as building construction and special programs (CUUC was awarded a Chalice Lighter grant to help with the construction of our sanctuary). This year the Chalice Lighters are issuing a call for contributions for a new building for North Shore UU Society in Lacombe, LA. The description of the Lacombe congregation is on the bulletin board at the church, as is a description of Chalice Lighters. The Small Church Conference will be held at the Woodlands on February 8-9, and the annual Southwest Women's Conference will be held February 22-24. Further information about both will be found on the church bulletin board.
