Nosotros, las congregaciones miembros de la Asociación UU, convenimos en afirmar y formentar el valor y la dignidad propria de cada persona.
Last year, at about this time, we got together at a special retreat and changed the way that CUUC does its business, moving from a conventional hydra-like organization to one that promoted mutual support and a focus on those activities that are important to the congregation.
It's time for us look back over the year's experience with our new organization, pat ourselves on the back for having made the transition, and look for ways to improve the way we operate.
It's also time that we take up some business left unfinished from the transition, namely, the matter of a mission statement. Some of us, at last year's retreat issued a call for a mission statement; others found it hard to see the need for one. But mission statements, like marriages, should not be decided upon in the abstract. So, to decide the issue, we need a candidate mission statement.
The Long Term Planning Committee has generously agreed to help us with both of these weighty matters by sponsoring a special retreat on April 27. Like last year's special retreat attendance at this one is MANDATORY, child care will be provided, and lunch will be FREE.
The place: CUUC
The time: 10AM - 4PM
The annual pledge drive has started and each household in our congregation will receive an informative letter containing a pledge card soon. If you would like a pledge card and do not receive one, please contact Robert McKee at 681-4197,by e-mail at "RobertJMcKee@aol.com" or by ground mail at address 11703 British Arms, SAT 78251. The pledge cards are due by Sunday, March 31, so that the Board can prepare next year's budget in early April. Thanks for everyone's response.
The Remarkable Film Series will be presenting "Miracle in Milan" at 5:00 PM (Please note the earlier starting time) on Sunday, March 17 at the church. The last of the Italian Neorealism films, Miracle in Milan was released in 1951 and directed by Vittorio De Sica who also directed "The Bicycle Thief". This film is more humorous than most of the Neorealism films.
The next Men's Group Meeting will be at 7:00 on Sunday, March 17, at the church. All men in the church are invited for a casual evening of fellowship and guy food. There will probably be Guinness. There may even be conversation. Questions? Contact Henry Halff (henry@quiensabe.com, 210-493-7501).

Beatrix Potter will come alive for our children on Sunday March 17th through the tales and activities provided by Markay Cheyney from First UU Church. Markay, a former kindergarten teacher and very special friend to several of us here, has visited Miss Potter's home in England and has collected considerable memorabilia. This should be a real treat for an All Ages children's class.
In the interest of reaching out to the Community through our Peace and Justice class, I have decided to hold a canned food hunt for the local food bank on Easter morning. We are asking both children AND adults to contribute canned goods throughout the month (a basket will be provided for this purpose) These cans will be hidden and after finding a certain number on Easter morning, each child will receive a bag of goodies from the Easter Bunny. This hunt for canned goods will be in addition to our Easter egg hunt. Oh, and by the way, is there anyone out there who would like to BE the Easter Bunny? Let me know. --Joan Bradshaw
