Nosotros, las congregaciones miembros de la Asociación UU, convenimos en afirmar y formentar el valor y la dignidad propria de cada persona.
Our church home needs sprucing up! There is a first of summer work day scheduled for Saturday, May 25 from 8:30 am to early afternoon. Please come at whatever time you can. This is one of the "joys" of belonging to a small church. We can all, no doubt, think of reasons why we would rather not, but If not we, who? The church really needs a work day and given the schedule this month, Saturday, May 25, is the day to clean the inside of the church, clear weeds from the play ground, and perform other basic maintenance. Please come and help as we can all have a fun and useful time together. If you have questions or suggestions please call Robert McKee at 681-4197.
Be sure to drop by this Saturday, May 11, for the annual CUUCSA garage sale. Donations will be accepted through Thursday, May 9; then the sale itself will start on Saturday around 8:30 (but lots of customers will undoubtedly show up earlier than that). If you have items you need transported to the church, contact Steve Boyd (830-606-0636; msbtoys@nbtx.com) or John Bradshaw (341-8506; jandjbradshaw@webtv.net). If you'd like to help out pricing on Thursday and Friday or selling and helping customers on Saturday, talk to Steve.

Last Sunday when the YRUU (High School Young People) presented a wonderfull service for us the attandence was as follows. When counted at 10:35 (five minutes after the service started) there were 21 adults and no children, not counting the YRUU in either category. When counted at 10:47 (12 minutes later) there were 31 adults and 3 children, again not counting the YRUU. Does this raise any issues in your mind? Please make any comments you wish on CUUC discuss.
The Remarkable Films Series is currently featuring films with the theme of Women Messiahs. The second film under this theme is "Breaking the Waves". It will be shown at 5:00 PM, Sunday, May 12 at the Church. This film was produced in 1996 in France and showcased the British actress, Emily Watson, who was nominated for an Academy Award for her remarkable performance. In 1999, Ms. Watson took the title role in "Angela's Ashes."
The U-U Housing Assistance Corporation is throwing a retirement dinner for June Kachtik on the 22nd of May. They are selling Tables of 8 for a bargain price of $240. Let's see how many we can buy. Let me know if you want to buy a seat by sending an email to henry@quiensabe.com.
Two notes.

Bottom Line is : the Board Proposes a Budget of $30,203 for the coming year. The Board notes that there is no capital or savings fund for major need such as roof or A/C repair on older part of building, and there is not enough in Program Services for full time pianist or once a month ordained minister speaker, but some special fundraisers may be in order if the requirements or desires of the congregation warrants them.
The Church currently owns two CD's with a value of $4,790 earning 1.75% interest. The outstanding balance on the mortgage is now $118,275. Church is insured for $170,000.
In the summer we alternate full-length services with shorter "brunch Sunday" services that are followed by potluck brunches. We ask for volunteers to host these brunches and bring a main disk; sign-up sheets will be available in the coffee room. This year's brunch Sundays will be June 9, 23; July 7, 21; and August 4, 18.
Note from the Treasurer: With the end of the church financial year coming on 31 May, anyone who has a question about their pledge and/or how much they have paid so far is invited to call John Bradshaw at 341-8506. After a suitable interval for research he will call you back.
Next Sunday we will celebrate Mother's Day and a Children's Naming Ceremony in a service, "Generation to Generation". If you have not already, be sure to contact Janet and myself for confirmation and information. Parents will be given an opportunity to say some words of dedication for their children during the service. Following that we will be getting ready for our final RE service on June 9 to recognize our teachers and to dedicate the Children's Peace Garden. The men's group has also agreed to kick off the summer with a Brunch. Summer Programming is also being implemented. Options abound: Dr Seuss Summer Curriculum, Art for Peace Program, UU Principles on the Internet Program and Environmental Projects. Each of these programs need coordination and leadership. If you are interested, see me and I will provide the resources.
However, should no one be available, then we will repeat last year's program called Serendipity Summer. Individuals sign up for one Sunday at a time and provide experiences for the kids like; swimming, stories, singing, sailing, sewing and service. In the chance that no one signs up (God Forbid) then the children will be expected to attend the regular church service with their parents. Baby sitting is not provided in the Summer, but I have yet to see a baby's bottom hit the floor when a baby is present. Sincerely, joan
