CUUCSA ON-LINE NEWSLETTER/ VOL. 14, NO. 9/September 2002

Editor: Margaret Batschelet, typea45@swbell.net

Nosotros, las congregaciones miembros de la Asociación UU, convenimos en afirmar y formentar el valor y la dignidad propria de cada persona.

Make CUUC Famous

Texas Public Radio (TPR) is again offering us the opportunity to become famous by coming up with a donation of at least $850. That's the amount that we need to buy an announcement on our local Texas Public Radio Stations. If you're already a member of TPR please make sure that you make your donation through the church. You'll still get your Classic Card and all the other perks of membership. And you won't have to endure having your name mispronounced on the air during pledge week. If you're not a member of TPR, tune your radio 88.3 (highbrow music) or 89.1 (chatter) until you hear something you like. Then, join, through the church. If you've already paid your annual pledge, hey, pay again. Make sure that our treasurer, Janet Oglethorpe gets your contribution by September 22 so that she can send our contribution in on time.

Soup Lunches

We've decided to revive our monthly soup lunches, starting with the soup lunch hosted by the Worship Committee on September 8. Soup lunch will take place on the first Sunday of each month and proceeds will go to a particular church group. A sign-up sheet has been placed in the coffee room for sponsors.

Remarkable Films

The Remarkable Film Series is continuing with films under the theme of Men Messiahs. The next will be "The Rainmaker". It is based on a novel by John Grisham and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. This film will be shown at 6:00 PM on Sunday, September 15 at the church.

Building and Grounds

Just a Reminder,
Several incidents have come to my attention, as chair of the operations committee, during the past month. Examples: 1) The faucet of the sink in the coffee room was left running Sunday; 2)Toys were not picked up after the board meeting Thursday; 3)A few Sundays ago after a children's project, the room was not returned to its original state.

This past week, the commode in the bathroom closest to the sanctuary was partially loosened from the wall, indicating something unusual had occurred.

Remember, if you are involved in some activitiy at the church, you are responsible for clean up. This is your church home, so please treat it with the same respect you have for your own home (assuming, of course, you are a reasonably neat housekeeper).

Thanks for checking before you leave next time,
June Kachtik

New on the Website

We've added a new section to the CUUCSA Web site-an archive of services from the Worship Committee. Many thanks to Steve Botts, Henry Halff, Mary Grace Ketner, and Peter Van Dusen for providing their past sermons. There's also a link on the links page to a new site, UU's of Texas, that includes bulletin boards and other interactive features for Texas UU's. If you have features that you'd like to see on the Web site, or if you'd like us to link to your Web site, contact the Webmaster, Margaret Batschelet, at typea45@swbell.net.

REmarks

A Meditation for Our Children
(Adapted from Guide My Feet, Marian Wright Edleman)
Let us provide our children with a safe harbor from which to sail,
An anchor of self-confidence and esteem,
A rudder of insights and knowledge,
Many sails of hope, and
A foundation of family that will keep them going
When life's seas get rough.
"Blessed be the children."

Small Church Conference

The 2003 Small Church Conference is an opportunity to learn new skills and to network with others from fellowships and small churches to better address the special challenges facing UU congregations of less than 150 members. It will take place March 28-29, 2003 at the UU Fellowship of Fayetteville, Arkansas. The keynote address will be "Growth: Spiritual and Institutional," delivered by the Rev. Rhett D. Baird. For more information, contact Rev. Jonalu Johnstone at jjohnstone@uuma.org
